Ms. Harrison Bio
My name is Ms. Harrison, and I teach 8th grade science and 8th grade gifted and talented science. I am also ACA’s STEM Coordinator. This is my 7th year with ACA and my 9th year teaching. I became a teacher because I love to learn and share my expertise with others. I enjoy working with students because they tend to see things in a unique way. ACA students tend to be very motivated to learn, and it’s such a privilege to work with these students. I enjoy working with parents to help their child succeed. We have a partnership that helps students learn, grow, and develop both in school and at home. Parents are really the heroes because they work with their child daily.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from ASU. I have a master’s degree in Education from GCU.

Getting Started
1. Start work in your lessons on the first day of school. Select the first lesson from your daily Planner found on your student home page. There are new lessons assigned each school day, so it is important that you stay on top of lessons. Your science textbooks are available online, but they are not required. They are a supplementary resource for you.
2. You will have 4 science lessons per week. You will have the option of completing unit 4 or replacing it with a science experiment. You will also have the option of either completing unit 2 and 3 portfolios from the lessons or you can replace them with a Chemistry Slim Project. You can read about the specific details about these options on this website under Portfolios section below.
3. If you need help, do not hesitate to contact me or your other teachers by phone or WebMail message. You can find a teacher’s contact information by selecting the blue “i” icon next to his/her name on your home page and choosing the Teacher Communication link. Here you will find your teacher’s phone number, WebMail address, and other important information. You can also find contact information on the message board.
4. Message boards are accessible by clicking on the pushpin icon at the top of your homepage. You can also click on the pushpin icon at the bottom of any science lesson to go directly to the science message board. You will find helpful resources here and on this website, so be sure to check it out!

Portfolio Workshop LiveLesson Recording - Includes instructions to all science portfolio for this semester. I perform all experiments in this recording. All students have to do is fill out the lab reports above.
Unit 1: Freefall and Circular Motion: Please follow all directions in the lesson carefully to complete this portfolio.
You can test one of Newton's Laws of motion. Sample Ideas:
1. Newton's 1st Law: Coin Drop Trick
2. Newton's 2nd Law: Hot Wheels Experiment
3. Newton's 3rd Law: Balloon car
**Make sure that you do not simply complete one of the demonstrations above but that you turn one of these demonstrations into an experiment where you are changing an Independent Variable to test it.
Unit 2 and 3: Factors Affecting Temperature Change and Endothermic & Exothermic Reactions: There are 2 options-
1. Follow all directions in the lessons carefully to complete these portfolios.
2. These portfolios can be replaced by the Chemistry Slime project. This project would be due when you get to the unit 2 portfolio. Click here to find information.
Unit 4: You can replace this entire unit with a project that involves creating a science experiment and lab report. You would send in a weekly update with your progress. You can create any science experiment. Think about a question you would like to find the answer to because your experiment should answer your question. Visit this website to learn more about the Scientific Method and how to conduct a valid experiment.
